Red Breasted Sap Sucker

This Sap-sucker is drilling holes to beat the band in our two pine trees in the backyard. It wouldn't be so bad, but we planted those trees and want them to stay alive. The trees provide shade and take so long to grow. The bird gets mad and swoops me when I go out to take his picture. It is the price he must pay for killing my trees. Later in the day I saw the Downy Woodpecker and the Northern Flicker.
It must have been a woodpecker day!

Acorn Woodpecker

The Acorn Woodpecker was located at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Thanks to Greg Gillson for posting the location on his blog, I like to find new birds to add to my life bird list and we were able to add one more today.

Birds on my Birthday in Newport

Western Meadowlark
The state bird - you would think this bird would be easier to find. We did not expect to see it at the coast. This is the bird that caused Chuck to get his hand caught in the car door. He was excited to see the bird and did not want to make noise shutting the car door and used his hand to quiet the noise (really it was the wind caught it too quickly).

Brown Pelicans
These pelicans were resting in the Yaquina Bay area.

Whimbrel
I might have seen this bird before, but this is the first time actually identifying one.
